North Lincolnshire health bosses urge caution during half term as Covid cases stay high
Health bosses are urging families to remain cautious during the half-term as infection rates remain high, especially in school-aged children.
In the week beginning 14 October, 707 people in North Lincolnshire tested positive for Covid.
There are currently 42 people in hospital in North Lincolnshire due to Covid, with 4 people having sadly passed away as of 20 October.
Ruth Twiggins, North Lincolnshire’s Consultant in Public Health, said: “Covid-19 infection rates in North Lincolnshire remain very high with highest rates in school-age children. The current infection rate in children aged between four and 10 years old is over 1,500 cases per 100,000. This compares to a rate of under 200 in people aged 65 to 69.
“As the rates are so high in our school-aged children, mixing with older friends and relatives could lead to an increase in cases in people more vulnerable to be very ill with Covid-19 so we are asking people to be cautious over the holiday.
“Families can take a few simple steps to keep each other safe over half-term. Meet outside if possible and if not ensure rooms are well ventilated. Practice good hand hygiene and wear a face covering in more crowded places. Most importantly get the vaccine – first, second and booster jabs when eligible.”
