Confusion over Humber Bridge closure
Commuters have taken to social media to express their frustration over the lack of clarity surrounding an overnight closure at the Humber Bridge.
Last month officials announced that the bridge will be closed for urgent repairs during a weekend in October.
Signs soon appeared at the Hessle and Barton sides of the bridge stating that the closure would take place overnight Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th October.
But, according to the latest official statement, the Humber Bridge Board have yet to decide on a date for the closure.
Regular bridge users are understandably frustrated over the confusion as lane closures caused by storm damage continue to cause delays.
One Twitter user wrote:
“Imagine closing the bridge for the first weekend of Hull Fair – couldn’t make it up.”
It is expected that the cones which are currently reducing each carriageway to a single lane will be removed once the work is complete.
Andrew Arundel, chief operating officer at the Humber Bridge, said: “There are various pre-works that still need to be completed and we will be heavily publicising the exact weekend once we have clarity. Weather will play a large part in the decision.”
This will be only the third time that the Humber Bridge has closed to motorists in its 40 year history.
The Humber Bridge Board have been contacted for an update.
