Covid-19 R rate in England falls “significantly” to 0.8 to 1.1, data shows

The R rate in England has fallen significantly to 0.8 to 1.1, with data showing that cases of coronavirus are falling across 87 percent of the country.

This is in the wake of the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions being eased, with all indoor public settings now open to members of the public once again.

Last week, the R rate stood at 1.1 to 1.4, indicating a drop in the rate of Covid-19 infection, according to a group of government advisers.

Any rate above 1 shows the outbreak of the virus is growing in the country, whereas anything below 1 means coronavirus is in decline.

With the current number at 0.8 to 1.1, this means that for every 10 people infected with the virus, they will go on to infect 8 to 11 other people.

Lincoln currently has the highest rate in the country, with 751 new cases of Covid-19 in the seven days to 1 August.

As for North East Lincolnshire, cases of the virus are down to 713, compared to just over 750 as reported just days ago.

The borough now appears on the Government’s Interactive Covid-19 map in a purple colour, with a case rate of 447.4 per 100,000 people.
