Free bike parking for cycle to work day
North East Lincolnshire Council have teamed up with Cycle Hub Lincs to offer free indoor cycle parking at Grimsby and Cleethorpes Cycle Hub to mark cycle tor work day next month.
Those cycling to work on Thursday 5 August will be able to park their bikes freely and securely in either the Grimsby Hub at Grimsby train station or the Cleethorpes Hub at Cleethorpes train station from 7:45am till 5:45pm.
The free parking initiative aims to encourage cyclists to make cycling their main form of transportation to and from work by letting them trial the facilities for free.
Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “As a local authority, working with our partner, ENGIE, we continue to push forward with our commitment to improving sustainable travel infrastructure, most recently this can be demonstrated with our Cycle Superhighway works – a new 3.8km off-road cycleway constructed to give cyclists a safe and sustainable route.
“But it is also vital we continue to work with our partners, ensuring that while we develop the infrastructure, we also have in place the right opportunities and projects to support the behavioural shift and people’s transition to cleaner and greener methods of transport.
“Working with Cycle Hub Lincs, this is a great opportunity for local residents to trial cycling to work, discover some of the infrastructure improvements we are making and join other cyclists to mark Cycle to Work Day. Cycling has many physical and mental health benefits, and if you can, I would urge you to get involved.”
