Winterton school closure as over 200 students isolating

Winterton school closure as over 200 students isolating.

On Friday The Winterton Federation released a statement saying: “Firstly, can I say a big thank you for supporting all our requests and the steps we have needed to take over the last few days regarding our COVID-19 outbreak at Winterton Junior School.”

According to reports, Winterton Community Academy has now issued parents with texts and emails saying that as of tomorrow, the school will close for a week.

Over 200 students are currently isolating – the school has 512 students in total.

The school and North Lincolnshire council have both been approached for comment.

Updates to follow.

Update: email sent to parents of pupils at the school, we are still waiting for comment from the school.

Update from Winterton Academy:

“I can confirm, as is stated in our letter on the website that we have moved our provision on-line for the remainder of this week and for next Monday.

“This is to coincide with the appropriate period of isolation following an increase in the number of people testing positive for COVID-19. As a consequence of the positive test results, almost half of the school had already been required to work from home.

“With positive results across all 4 year groups, the decision has been taken to revert to online provision for all students. This should act as a circuit breaker and reduce the risk within our school community of a further increase in positive cases.

“In terms of provision, we have previously been able to offer a full and comprehensive online programme and all students will have their full timetable of lessons delivered through zoom.

Kind regards, Mr K Rowlands”
