Customers overcharged in Tesco tech error
Over the last week supermarket chain Tesco has been experiencing payment issues throughout the UK, with chaotic results.
There have been multiple reports of shoppers being double, or even triple charged for their shopping.
Some reports suggest that this weeks technical failure may not be an isolated incident – with some double charges dating back to September 2020.
Although not every store is affected, many customers are still waiting for their money to be refunded.
Some Extra, Express, Metro and petrol station stores have been affected.
A Tesco spokesperson said:
“Due to a technical error, some customer card payments have been authorised more than once.
“We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused, and we want to reassure affected customers that they will only pay for their purchases once and any duplicate transactions will be reversed.”
According to a report by MoneySavingExpert, thousands of people are thought to have been impacted by the error.
The supermarket said where possible it’s contacting all customers directly, but the issue is still ongoing.
A spokesperson added that customers who have been flagged by its database will be refunded within 24-hours – such transactions could take up to five days to process.
