Report: Fine weather delivers several hard-fought LCCL matches
The weather helped deliver a fine weekend of games in the Lincolnshire County Cricket League at the weekend.
LCCL PREMIER DIVISION
Barton Town continue to lead the way in the Premier Division following their nine-wicket win at Heslam Park against Scunthorpe Town 2nds, who they bowled out for 139. Angus Evans top scored with 52, while Lennon Ward hit 29. Bradley Hodson took three for 21 before teammates Joe Hewitt and Lewis Barnes scored 58 and 55 not out to guide the Humbersiders home.
Second-placed Louth picked up a superb eight-wicket win at London Road against Cleethorpes 2nds, who set a tough target of 218 all out, with 95 from Ed Carlton and 51 for George Carlton. Patrick Byrne and Jason Collinson took three each before opener Laurence Scott hit 102 not out and Jason Collinson 42 not out to win it for Louth.
Another centurion was Will Carter, who scored 111 not out for Market Rasen at former club Caistor Town in their first innings total of 267 for five. Will Bradford claimed three for 42 when restricting Caistor to 213 for eight, as Scott Indian hit 49 and Sam Welton 44.
Haxey are up to fourth, as they continued their good run when beating bottom club HLC on the Isle after posting a score of 212 for seven, with 46 from Jack Smith and 32 from wicketkeeper Dale Coy. They then bowled their opponents out for 161, as Smith took three for 37 and Scott Ewen three for 21.
Will Bailey’s 73 was the cornerstone of Scothern’s 206 against Hartsholme. Steven Wilkinson took four for 66 and Yvonne Graves three for 29, only for their side to be dismissed for 104. Harry Pickett took five for 24 and Alex Stapleton three for 12.
LCCL DIVISION ONE
There is no stopping Lindum 2nds at the top of Division One after they claimed a sixth-straight victory when beating Broughton by 34 runs. They hit 232 for eight thanks in the main to 51 from keeper Charlie Jubbs before bowling the hosts out for 198 despite 63 from Richard Green and 59 from Shaun Clark. Jordan Peters took four for 25 and Dan Taylor three for 31.
Messingham are up to second after beating Cherry Willingham by 115 runs, scoring 218 for eight with 52 from Tom Sowerby. They then skittled Cherry out for 103.
Dan McCardell hit a match-winning 87 for third-placed Nettleham 2nds in their victory over Louth 2nds, who were bowled out for 148 with Jack Ashcroft-Day taking four for 16. Then McCardell and 36 not out from Jack Thornton saw Nettleham reach 152 for two.
Things are getting no better for lowly Outcasts, who are still yet to win following a seven-wicket defeat by Normanby Park at Hirst Priory, with Matty Teal top scoring on 38 in their all-out total of 125. Mason McDaid proved too hot to handle when picking up an impressive five for 21 after which 67 from Luke Cowling and 42 not out from Simon Wild saw Normanby home.
Liam Sylvester smashed a magnificent 120 for Appleby Frodingham 2nds at Brumby Hall against Market Rasen 2nds, as the Steelmen racked up 292 for nine. Despite 56 from opener Lee Chambers, Rasen mustered only 93 in reply, as Muhammed Rahman captured four for 12 and George Forrester three for 27.
LCCL DIVISION TWO
Hibaldstow are having a superb season and they moved top of the table when beating Alford by 26 runs after making 198 for seven thanks mainly to in-form Lee Robinson, who hit 68 and one less from Joe Taylor. Yasir Ahmed took four for 40, as the hosts fell short on 172, but stalwart Neil Calvert made things tough when hitting 52.
Previous leaders Brocklesby Park suffered a first defeat of the season when going down by two wickets at Augusta Street, where they were bowled out for 171 by Grimsby Town 2nds. Onkar Singh scored 46 and Jahangir Latif 28 before James McGregor hit 47 and Gary Spencer 36 not out to help claim the points for Town.
There were runs galore at Marsh Lane, where visiting Bracebridge Heath 2nds hit a tough-looking 234 for seven, with 59 from opener Will Davies. Ben Andrew and Ben Leaning took three wickets each only for 64 from William Neesham and 56 from Callum Newton to set up a nail-biting finish that saw Ian Andrew (36 not out) and Tom Brock (26 not out) guide Barton home.
Alkborough picked up a second league win when beating Broughton 2nds by nine wickets, dismissing them for 70, with three wickets each for Andy Williamson and Oliver Kirman. The latter then finished 25 not out, as his team cruised home.
Finally, Lee Beevers hit 52 for Hartsholme 2nds, as they beat Lindum 3rds by two wickets. They bowled them out for 132 thanks in the main to Stuart Bell, who captured four for nine before Beevers helped Hartsholme to 133 for eight.
LCCL DIVISION THREE EAST
Leaders Cleethorpes 3rds claimed a comfortable win at Tetney Lane, where they bowled HLC 2nds out for 66, as Simon Taylor took five for 22 then 41 from Akbar Amadzai and 18 from Stuart Wood won it for the Meggies.
But the performance of the day had to be that of Horncastle, who had no less than three centurions, as they amassed an incredible 347 for two. Liam Evans hit 107, Fraser Pemberton 103 not out and Nathan Whiting 101 not out before Finn Fisher picked up four for seven and Thomas Hackett three for zero when Alford were skittled out for 66.
Grimoldby beat Louth 3rds by three wickets, dismissing them for 163, as Stephen Parkinson hit 68 and Harry Hall 26 before Matthew Mansey made 43 and Jason Bartup 36 to see their team to victory. Harry Parkinson claimed three for 36.
LCCL DIVISION THREE WEST
George Luya hit 101 for leaders Scunthorpe Town 3rds, who beat a resilient Outcasts 2nds that made them fight all the way. Town hit 258 for eight, with Ashton Wroot taking a creditable three for 23 before Charlie Mason scored 78 and skipper Martin Davey 52 as the Priorymen reached 198 for five in reply.
Second-placed Nettleham 3rds bowled Messingham 2nds out for 67, as James Stevens and Sam Ashcroft took three wickets each then Stevens made 16 not out and Nathan Balding 15 not out to guide the Lincoln team home.
Brigg Town won a low-scoring thriller against Cherry Willingham 2nds to climb above them at the foot of the table, with Paul Neal making 38 and Jack Richards 29 in Brigg’s total of 101. Sayed Abu (four for 13) and Henry James (three for 23) held their nerve, as Cherry fell two runs short of their target.
