Report: League leaders suffer rare defeat in latest round of NLL fixtures
There was a surprise result in the latest round of fixtures at the top of the North Lindsey League at the weekend.
MICK WALKER NLL DIVISION ONE
Leaders Scunthorpe Town Development XI suffered a rare off day when they were beaten by Alkborough, who were bowled out for 101 at West Halton Lane before the table toppers slumped to 36 all out themselves.
Neil Gray hit 43 and Nathan Robinson 18 in the first innings, as Jack Murray took three for 13 and Harry Crampton two for 11. But the bowling performance of the season so far came from Matty Brown, who captured an amazing eight for 11, as the leaders lost for the first time in this campaign.
MICK WALKER NLL DIVISION TWO
Scunthorpe Town 4ths climbed to the top of the Division Two table with a hefty win over Normanby Park. Opener Tom Giles hit an impressive 105, with Dan Conroy adding 58 and Xander Crabb 43 in a total of 251 for four. Mason McDaid top scored for Normanby when making 63 out of 103, as Sachin Chand took three for 10 for Town.
Broughton picked up their first league victory, but it was a close-run thing against Outcasts. Brett Fish hit 66 and Josh Smith 52, as they set a target of 214 for nine with Billy Scott taking four for 29. Martin Davey scored 95 and Russell Fletcher 63, as the Isle side reached 202 for six in reply, with Sam Hayton picking up a superb five for 35 for Broughton.
MICK WALKER MEMORIAL TROPHY – GROUP C
With Scunthorpe Town 4ths already having topped Group C, Hibaldstow against Haxey was no more than a battle for second place and it was Haxey that claimed that spot when beating their opponents by six wickets. Hibaldstow made 165 for seven before the visitors replied with 166 for four.
NLL T20
Scunthorpe Town moved to the top of the T20 North Lindsey Evening League when they beat Normanby Park by 73 runs.
It was old-hand Garmesh Chand that took centre stage when hitting 71 and then taking three for 15 in the Normanby innings. Town set a tough target of 177 for six, with Chand leading the way alongside 23 from Daniel Crew and 20 from George Luya.
Ethan Brough picked up three for 25 then Sam Longden top-scored for Normanby with 30 alongside Declan Dunning, who added 22. Luke Ellis and Lucy Bailey took two wickets each to add to Chand’s three.
Alkborough joined Broughton on 18 points when beating them by four wickets at West Halton Lane, restricting them to 112 for nine, as Shaun Clark hit 38 and Paul Mitchell 21.
Christopher Davey took three for 30 and Matty Brown two for 15 after 30 from Andy Williamson and 29 from Mark Standerline helped Alkborough reach 113 for six, three of which were claimed by Mitchell.
Joe Taylor retired on 50 as Hibaldstow made 108 for five at Hirst Priory. They then restricted Outcasts to 99 for six to claim a narrow victory, with David Hobson scoring 27 and Russell Fletcher 26 not out.
