Anger as families left ‘stranded’ in Scotland
A parent has been left frustrated after a flight packed full of local families visiting Lapland for the day ended up ‘stranded’ in Edinburgh.
The flight reportedly diverted due to fog, leaving the families furious over their apparent abandonment at the airport.
The families had been visiting Santa Claus at Lapland, but were told they were diverting to Edinburgh Airport, a massive 300 miles away from Humberside Airport. The flight was due to land at Humberside at 9:40 pm on Sunday, December 11.
According to reports, the pilot had a 15-minute window on the decision of landing the craft at Humberside Airport.
The flight outward had travelled to Finland at 7 am on Sunday from Humberside. The parents were allegedly informed airports were full, hence the lengthy diversion.
The airport said there were no available buses, however, but said taxis would be available to those landing. The first plan of using buses would have meant the passengers would arrive back at Humberside almost 24 hours after they left for Finland.
When arriving at Edinburgh, passengers were then told that they would need to be driven back to Humberside Airport in taxis.
A spokesperson for Enter Air said: “The aircraft was diverted due to very bad weather conditions at Humberside Airport. There were no available buses, so all available taxis were used to transfer passengers.”
