Oldham secure Nuttall signing from Scunthorpe

Scunthorpe United have agreed a deal to sell striker Joe Nuttall to National League rivals Oldham Athletic.

The club confirmed the 25-year-old indicated yesterday that he wanted to join the Latics and is believed to have signed a three-year deal.

This comes as quite a surprising move after it was reported a couple of months ago that Nuttall had rejected the opportunity to join Oldham, who sit just one place above the Iron in the table.

After the Lancashire club were rumoured to have reignited their interest in the Bury-born man earlier this week, United told Radio Humberside they hadn’t received an improved offer and that the player wasn’t interested in joining Oldham.

But that situation quickly changed when he informed Scunthorpe’s hierarchy that he wanted to leave the club yesterday.

The forward, who joined the Iron in January from Blackpool, was the club’s top scorer so far this season with nine goals, including one against the Latics earlier on in this campaign.

He is currently serving a three-game suspension, having been sent off in the defeat to Wealdstone two weeks ago.
