Deal agreed with local group for Scunthorpe United takeover
Scunthorpe United have confirmed a deal has been agreed with a local group to buy the club.
A club statement announced that the consortium in question is headed by former Iron director Simon Elliott and Scunthorpe-born film producer Ian Sharp.
It added that the club will now work with the group during the final due diligence stages and transition into their ownership over the coming weeks.
There had been growing concerns surrounding the club’s future after it was revealed on Wednesday that staff at Glanford Park had not been paid their wages for November.
Speaking after the deal was agreed, Peter Swann said: “We needed to ensure that the club wages for November were paid as soon as possible, which will happen later today or tomorrow thanks to the deal and ensure the long-term future of the football club with new investment.”
The statement added that Elliott and Sharp are heading to Scunthorpe “right now” to finalise the details and prepare for the game on Saturday against Notts County.
Elliott confirmed to Radio Humberside that the deal includes Glanford Park and the land surrounding the stadium.
