By ‘Changing Places’ facility eyed for Scunthorpe
A new public loo is eyed for Scunthorpe town centre, providing it receives adequate planning approval.
Government funding was secured for a ‘Changing Places’ toilet, which is proposed to sit just outside HSBC, on Wells Street.
Changing Places facilities are designed to be accessible for disabled people and include specialist equipment, which include an overhead hoist, a height-adjustable changing bench, and a rise-and-fall sink.
There are 12 examples of these facilities across North Lincolnshire, featuring a 12 sq metre internal floor space.
According to reports, It will cost about £63,000, based on the quote the council has received for the work from Innova Care Concepts.
The 2011 demolition of a multi-story car park removed WC facilities near to the location of the proposed new loo, including in 2019, when Scunthorpe Market and its loos went too.
Public consultation on the proposed loo ends on November 30.
The Changing Places Consortium, made up of Pamis, Muscular Dystrophy UK and Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE), campaigns for all UK public venues to have such a facility.
