Officer who ‘faked’ injury faces misconduct
An officer is faced with a misconduct hearing after allegedly faking an injury whilst on duty.
The officer claimed an injury to his eye after he’d been attacked on duty.
PC Lucas Ellis, an officer from Humberside Police, is accused of gross misconduct over an incident last year. The officer told superiors he’d been inflicted with a cut to the eye during a public order incident, in Scunthorpe.
The officer also sent his supervisor a picture of the injury, which the force now claims was fake and was an injury he’d sustained elsewhere.
A misconduct hearing is to be held in Goole later this month to investigate whether PC Ellis’ alleged actions amount to gross misconduct.
If the hearing results to gross misconduct, he could be barred from policing.
PC Ellis had claimed the injury was sustained during an incident on Litchfield Avenue last year.
The officer breached guidelines relating to honesty and integrity, the force’s Professional Standards Department claims.
A statement on the force’s website said: “On 27 October 2021, following a public order incident on Litchfield Avenue, Scunthorpe, [PC Ellis] informed a supervisor, that he had been assaulted resulting in a cut to the side of his left eye which was red and bleeding when he knew this to be incorrect and/or misleading.”
It adds: “On 01 November 2021, he provided evidence in the form of a signed MG11 witness statement and an evidential photograph regarding an injury he alleged was sustained during a public order incident on Litchfield Avenue, Scunthorpe.
“The witness statement contained information which he knew to be incorrect and/or misleading, in particular he asserted or intimated that the injury to his face was sustained during the said incident he attended.
“The above conduct breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour relating to Honesty and Integrity and individually and/or cumulatively amounts to gross misconduct.” A hearing will now take place on Friday, November 25, at the old magistrates court in Goole.
