Deer severely injured after dog attack

Many have been left upset and shaken after a dog attack caused severe injuries to a deer in Weelsby Woods yesterday (17 October).

Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue saved two deer yesterday after members of the public reported a deer being attacked by a dog in Weelsby Woods.

The deer sustained injuries along with others that suggest an attack from another deer, prompting the need for emergency appointments and operations.

Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue said: “One was reported by members of the public as being attacked by a dog in Weelsby Woods, the injuries also add evidence to this report, and the other with neck injuries from another deer.

“With these being emergency appointments and needing operations, initial quote is estimated at £800+ and then we’re expecting further £200 in rehabilitation requirements. We also ordered medications for one of the swans in rehabilitation yesterday and this totalled £120!”

The Friends of Weelsby Woods community group shared an update stating that a dog owner was reportedly spotted allowing their four dogs to attack the residential deer, sadly killing one.

They said: “We’ve received a report about a person allowing their 4 dogs to attack, and ‘kill’ a deer, from the resident herd in Weelsby Woods!

“This was a disgusting event, the witnesses, who are not ok, having no way to ‘unsee’ this, reported the deer screaming in fear and pain. The dogs owners would not accept accountability.”

The incident have now been reported to Humberside Police who have been contacted for a statement.
