Ex Humberside Police officer accused of giving false names and withholding information

A former Humberside Police Officer will face a misconduct hearing after he reportedly gave a false name and email address to receive free beer.

Former PC Paul Elliott will face a panel on November 17 in relation to the incident in June 2021. He is also accused of failing to provide information about his final written warning from Humberside Police when trying to move to the Derbyshire Constabulary.

He also allegedly tried to cover up a speeding offence for which he had to take a speeding course. The force maintains that the two incidents from 2021 amount to gross misconduct.

It is alleged that on June 29, 2021 PC Elliott was in a bar in Sheffield when he obtained more than one free pint of Heineken in a promotional offer by submitting false names and false email addresses. He did this knowing the email addresses could not be verified and that the promotional offer was only one free drink per person.

On May 25 2021, Elliott submitted an application form to Derbyshire Constabulary in which he provided false information and failed to provide relevant information. It is said that he failed to disclose details of a speeding offence on October 23, 2020, following which he was required to attend a speeding course.

He also failed to disclose his previous involvement as a suspect in a criminal investigation, answering ‘No’ on the vetting form if he had ever been involved in a criminal investigation as a suspect.

He also failed to disclose he had a live Final Written Warning in place for Misconduct with Humberside Police which was issued on February 1, 2021 for two years along with his previous address.

The above conduct breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour relating to Honesty and Integrity and Discreditable Conduct and amounts to gross misconduct.

The hearing will take place at the Magistrates’ Court Building in Goole next month.
