Division One title race looks to be heading for final-day decider following latest results
The three-way Division One title race appears to be going down to the final day of the season, with only one point separating the top three sides in the Scunthorpe Pool League.
Showmans Army lead the way on 132 points after winning their 13th game of the season 8-4 at home to Broughton Club. But Mulligans Trojans and Showmans Fu Cue closed the gap on the leaders following impressive 10-3 wins away at Redbourne Mode and Brumby Hall.
Meanwhile, Showmans Chaos edged out Showmans Cobras 8-5 in the latest derby match at the venue, while Back In Black Beauty are in desperate need of a miracle to survive after their 7-5 away defeat at sixth-placed Beacon A.
Showmans Improvers cut the lead at the top of Division Two down from eight points to one following their excellent 11-2 win away at Messingham Crown.
Mulligans Majestic Sausage Dogs’ crushing 8-4 defeat at Black Beauty saw them lose ground this week and it means the title race will likely be neck and neck up until the final day. The home win for Beauty has provided them with a real lifeline in their bid for survival.
Elsewhere, Cocked Hat recorded their 11th victory of the campaign, winning 8-5 away at Ashby Crown. But Glenny’s Poachers remain rooted to the bottom of the division following their 7-5 defeat at RAOB, which likely condemns them to relegation this season.
In contrast to Glenny’s misfortunes, Mill Road Black Cats scored a vital 9-4 win away at Winterton Jubilee to all but ensure their safety.
Showmans Rat Outcasts are within touching distance of the Division Three title following their latest convincing victory at Liberal Club this week, as they came away from Crowle 11-2 winners.
Old Farmhouse jumped into joint second, with a comfortable 9-3 home victory over Showmans Spartans. They are joined by Fedoras, who won 9-4 at Pig & Whistle.
Chancel Flyers emerged victorious in the battle at the bottom of the division against Harry’s Bar, recording a 7-5 win. However, the 10-point deficit will be a difficult one to overcome if they are to avoid the drop.
Cocked Hat remain in fifth spot following their 8-4 home victory over Mulligans Tight Rack.
Division Four continues to be an intriguing title race, with just one point separating first and second. Bottesford Town Club scored a 7-5 victory over third-placed Schnapps A to remain top, but hot on their heels are Mulligans STs, who came away from fourth-placed Redbourne Madness with a 6-6 draw.
Mulligans Youth won their first match of the season at home to ninth-placed Jolly Sailor, but both teams are likely to be playing eachother next season in Division Five as Broughton WMCA managed a decent 8-4 win at home to Redbourne NnC to all but secure their place in the division.
Chancel recorded a 9-4 away win at RHH Hospital Club as both sides maintain their mid-table positions.
Beckwood scored the biggest victory this week in Division 5, seeing Butchers Of Winterton off 12-1 to solidify a respectable fourth position.
Showmans Hornets remain in third after overcoming Ashby Crown with a 9-3 victory. Mill Road B also managed an impressive scoreline this week by beating Talbot 10-2.
Black Beauty B came away from Roxy Rack Em with a final-frame victory, as both sides remain sixth and seventh respectively to almost certainly secure their safety for another season.
Harry’s Bar Harriers look nailed on to be named Division Six champions on the back of their latest 10-2 victory away at Brumby Hall B. Beckwood Sex Panthers were also in lethal form this week, winning 11-1 at home to Scunthorpe Bowl.
Foxhills Bulldogs and Beacon Rats remain third and fourth following this week’s results. The Rats scored a quality 9-3 victory over Schnapps Elite, while Foxhills fell to an 8-4 defeat at Mill Road DM, who recorded just their second victory of the season.
Foxhills Club had better fortunes, though, after they won 7-5 at home to Beacon B. Keadby Club lost their first game of the season this week at home to Lord Roberts A, as the away side took an impressive 9-4 win away from Keadby.
Mulligans Unique failed to capitalise on the situation by losing 8-5 at home to Bottesford Town B, leaving Keadby Club in prime position to win the Division Seven title in their first season in the league.
Schnapps Reloaded remain in fourth spot following their 9-4 away win at Grosvenor. Mulligans Spurs, which is made up entirely of under-18s, scored their fifth win of the season away at Schnapps Retro A as their experience in league pool is turning into results.
Once again, a Schnapps-based side reversed their home advantage to Mulligans, allowing the tie to go ahead due to licencing restrictions and demonstrating excellent fair play qualities.
Another side finally reaping the rewards is Priory, who avoided defeat for the first time this season two weeks ago. They went one better this week by winning 10-3 at Schnapps Retro B.
