Cleethorpes family pay tribute to ‘truly inspiring’ Queen after visiting Westminster Hall

A family from Cleethorpes have paid tribute to the ‘truly inspiring’ Queen after visiting Westminster Hall in London where she is currently lying in state.

The Queen was moved from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall on Wednesday afternoon as hundreds of thousands of people are expected to say goodbye to their dearly departed monarch.

Queen Elizabeth will lie in state until Monday morning when she will be moved her her state funeral. A national 2 minutes silence will be held following the service and businesses, schools and local services close for the day.

Her death, announced on 9 September, shocked not only the nation but the world as a figure who was so dearly loved, respected and revered sadly passed away.

The Brown family from Cleethorpes were just one of many family to make the journey to London to visit the Queen.

Marion Brown, 77, said: “It reminded me of the public mood at Winston Churchill’s funeral that I attended down the Mall when I was a little girl. At the Queen’s lying in state It was very quiet and everyone was at peace and there to Celebrate her service. Everyone was very kind. It was a very moving day and it’s important to live history rather then just watch it on TV if you are able to. I think for me and the whole nation Queen Elizabeth II was The Queen of Hearts and it’s incredible to see so many people turning out to show their respect.

“I hope there will be a permanent tribute in Cleethorpes eventually. However, I hope local residents will take the opportunity between now and the funeral to turn the Cenotaph at St Peter’s church down St Peter’s Avenue into an ocean of flowers in honour of our late monarch. She was the Queen of Hearts.”

Ex Cleethorpes Councillor Matthew Brown, 36, said: “It was important to pay our respects to The Queen for her many years service. Her lying in state was majestic and truly moving. The sun just shining through the Jubilee window reassuring us. It was touching at how many people were inspired by her. You did not have to be a Royalist to appreciate her service and her formidable reputation on the global stage. A republican I met said that whilst he did not agree with Monarchy they did respect The Queen and wanted to pay tribute to her as a person. People we met were keen to pay tribute to our Queen.

“Most people retire in their 60s or 70’s. Thus, to not only serve us aged 96, but to continue her duties including appointing a new Prime Minister days before her death whilst being very unwell is truly inspiring. She was Elizabeth The Great. Seeing the Imperial State Crown and the regalia on the led lines coffin was incredible and moving. However, it may be her crown but she was our jewel.”
