On Tuesday, Jennette McCurdy released her memoir titled ‘I’m Glad My Mom Died’, she wrote about her early life and career, including being under constant control of her abusive mother, Debra McCurdy. McCurdy also revealed that Nickelodeon offered her $300,000 if she agreed to never speak publicly about her experiences at the network, which she refused.

She discusses her experience at Nickelodeon, claiming that she had to reject other film offers whilst working on ‘iCarly’, whereas Ariana Grande was allowed to skip ‘Sam & Cat’ filming in order to attend music awards and events.

“The week where I was told Ariana would not be here at all, and that they would write around her absence this episode by having her character be locked in a box. Are you kidding me? So I have to turn down movies while Ariana’s off whistle-toning at the Billboard Music Awards? F**k. This.” Jennette admitted she began to “resent being a good sport” because that’s what led her to be in a predicament at Nickelodeon, including being on that “sh**ty show” with “sh**ty lines.”

“Ariana misses work in pursuit of her music career while I act with a box. I’m pissed about it. And I’m pissed at her. Jealous of her.” she wrote. She also admitted how she would often compare herself to Grande; “I frequently make the mistake of comparing my career to Ariana’s. I can’t help it. I’m constantly in the same environment as her, and she doesn’t exactly try to hide her successes.”

McCurdy went on to say that she envied Grande because “she had a much easier upbringing than I did”. The actor’s memoir reveals the abuse she endured by her “narcissistic” mother, who she claims conditioned her into eating disorders and subjected her to breast and genital examinations until she was 16.

McCurdy claimed that her envy of Grande became more difficult to disguise as the singer gained more success and fame;

“What finally undid me was when Ariana came whistle-toning in with excitement because she had spent the previous evening playing charades at Tom Hanks’s house,” she said. “That was the moment I broke. I couldn’t take it anymore.” “From that moment on, I didn’t like her. I couldn’t like her,” she added. “Pop star success I could handle, but hanging out with Sheriff Woody, with Forrest F**king Gump? This has gone too far.”
