Local Paediatric Nurses ‘Inspiring Little Lockdown Minds’ with new children’s books

An event is set for Waltham Windmill as part of a new collection of children’s books, ‘The Adventures of Ollie Bobs and Duke’ will have its official launch of the book.

‘Already making acclaimed traction with reviewers, local paediatric nurses Faye Stringer and Alice Rae’s new collection of children’s books ‘The Adventures of Ollie Bobs and Duke’ is celebrating the official launch of its first book, ‘The Sneaky Tiger’ with a special event being held at Waltham Windmill on 7th August.’ Faye said.

The event welcomes all and runs from 11 am – 4 pm and is set to provide ‘roar-some fun for all of the family including rides on the exciting tiger trail train’.,

‘Hartbeeps, tiger striped ice creams from Bensley’s Food & Ice Cream, fun creations from face painting by Jess, hair by JT, as well as stalls from Hallow & The Hare Clothing, Lily’s nappies, Babroo, Doll House, and The Enchanted Bakery!’ Faye added.

The book was formed as a response to the Covid-19 lockdown, the authors said the narrative is inspired by Faye’s ‘imaginative son Ollie’ and his stuffed teddy dog, Duke, ‘along with a cheeky tiger playing on an inquisitive tale of hide and seek.’ She said.

Faye spoke further about the book:

“I chose to write the books in response to the COVID-19 lockdown; a period of time where as a community nurse I was devastated to witness children’s interaction, playing, and having adventures vastly diminishing. I was overwhelmed with an appreciation for how the minds of little humans directly absorb their environment and the affect it has upon them – which was immeasurably impacting their mental health and wellbeing.

“The books provide the support for caregivers in re-igniting the imaginative play of their little ones – allowing them to transform everyday objects, environments, and discussion into adventure, excitement, and learning!

“Olympia Publishers recognised the need and value in the stories and championed the beautiful hand-painted illustrations by Alice.

“We’re extremely proud and excited that the first book has been published.”

Future releases from the collection all thrive on the core theme of stimulating little ones’ imaginations with fun, creative stories but also touch on pertinent subjects such as autism, stereotypes, kindness, additional needs, different ethnic groups, and inclusivity.

Alice added:

“As well as children having the opportunity to be immersed in imaginative play we also think it’s vital for them to learn we all have differences, and not only normalise them, but celebrate them, as such we really wanted to highlight these topics, but do so in an interesting, appropriate and understandable way.

“Further down the line, it would be great to have the opportunity to add even more stories to the collection touching on conditions we experience daily as paediatric nurses.”

The Adventures of Ollie Bobs & Duke, The Sneaky Tiger is available to purchase nationwide now via Amazon, Waterstones, Browns, and Olympia Publishers .
