Woman died after ‘falling from height’ at Scunthorpe steelworks 

The tragic accident at British Steel’s Scunthorpe site is now being investigated. 

Last weekend (16 July), a woman sadly passed away after falling from height at British Steel’s Scunthorpe site on Brigg Road. 

Following the devastating incident, Humberside Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) officially launched an investigation to uncover the circumstances leading up to the 27-year-olds death. 

A short statement released by Humberside Police confirmed the woman had sadly died at the scene and a subsequent investigation would be opened. 

After initial examinations and discussions between Humber Police and HSE concluded, it was decided that HSE would lead further investigations at the Steelworks. 

Jane Fox, HSE’s principal inspector, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the person who died.”

A spokesman for British Steel confirmed the steel giant is working in full cooperation with Humberside Police and HSE, adding the victim’s family has now been contacted and “our thoughts are with them and our colleague’s friends.” 

A plethora of emotional tributes began to flood in after the tragic news broke, one colleague saying: 

“Fantastic team member and hard worker so sad. condolences to your family and many friends, rest in peace, sleep tight my friend.” 

“Rest in peace lovely person, one of our fellow bos plant workers, sad times,” added another. 

Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends during this difficult time.
