Over 200 new homes given green light on Louth Road

Yesterday evening councillors approved the second phase of Wigmore Park, meaning 227 new homes will be built on the site off Louth Road.

The plans were praised for their green spaces and play areas, as this next phase takes the total number of houses over the originally proposed 400 to 450.

Carried out by Barratt Homes, works are set to start almost immediately as the planning committee was told a new set of traffic lights would be installed on the A16 Louth Road on the approach to Tollbar roundabout.

This next phase of construction will link the homes and roads already under construction opposite Tollbar Academy.

The firm will pay £1.1million towards education in North East Lincolnshire with £500,000 going to primary schools and £600,000 towards secondary education.

Barratt Homes stated that the site will be made up of two, three and four-bedroom homes. Twenty per cent will be classed as “affordable homes” for social housing for less-well-off families.

Praising the plans, Councillor Steve Beasant said: “This is brilliant. We have not seen so many green spaces on a development like this before. I hope other developers look at this. I look forward to cycling around there soon.” Councillor David Hasthorpe said: “It is well thought out. It is great they are building in North East Lincolnshire and supporting our education, because they could easily have built it in Holton-le-Clay.”

Safety road improvements will be installed on the new traffic light controlled A16 Louth Road junction to protect children walking and cycling to the academy.
