North Lincolnshire Council’s new plan to deal with fly tipped tyres

North Lincolnshire Council have announced a fantastic environmentally friendly competition with an incredible prize!

Ahead of the Young Mayor Environmental Award Project the Young Mayor, Alexia Dibdin, has announced a competition for North Lincolnshire residents to get creative and reuse old goods for new projects.

The environmentally friendly initiative involves recycling fly tipped tyres from around the area in a bid to reduce waste.

In the announcement statement, the council said they collected 16.7 tones of tyres in 2021-22 and 14.97 in 2020-21, adding:

“Collected tyres are currently disposed of by a contracted company Envirotyre, who reuse the tyres as a material for the construction industry or as an alternative fuel source.

“Improving the environment within North Lincolnshire and local communities remains a huge priority for the youth council, after launching the Young Mayor’s Environmental Award last year. It recognises young members of the community who go above and beyond, improving their local communities.

“The Young Mayor is determined to keep this award going and crown more young people as environment champions.”

Now, residents are being invited to get creative and put the discarded tyres to better use!

The council have listed some ideas:

  • Create an eco-friendly planter in your garden
  •  Turn the tyre into a swing, fun for all the family
  • Create a playground for your pets
  • Keep the kids busy in the garden with their very own obstacle course
  • Ideal for sand or mud pits

The council concluded the announcement by stating:

“To enter the competition and be in with a chance of scooping the terrific prize of a Normanby Hall Country Park family pass. You will need to collect your tyre(s) and send us a picture of your finished recycled tyre project to young.voice@northlincs.gov.uk.

“Tyres are available for collection only and can be collected from Billet Lane, Scunthorpe, DN15 9YH between 7:30am and 2:30pm, Monday to Friday.

“Entries will close midnight Friday 22 July 2022.”
