Strikes planned across the country as fuel prices prompt national outrage

A Facebook group with tens of thousands of followers has been created as members of the public plan fuel strikes in response to rising petrol prices.

UK Fuel Action was created just six days ago by Neil Wildman to “gain a number of support to the rising fuel prices and offer a central information portal”.

Currently sitting at 27,000 members, members of the public from across the UK are sharing both national and regional strike action.

Some are planning on boycotting certain petrol stations such as Shell, while others are planning road blockages to cause disruption and create as much awareness as possible.

One such event is set to take place on July 4, entitled Stand Up To Fuel Prices UK Wide.

Starting at 6 am, members of the public are encouraged to get any vehicle they can, whether it be a car, van, or lorry, and block major roads.

Nearly 50,000 people have taken to the page to share when and where their demonstrations will take place, hoping to spark government action by bringing the country to a halt.

Over the weekend petrol prices hit an all-time high, with the average cost of filling a 55-litre family car with diesel is now £105.01, while the price for a petrol car is £101.77.

Motoring groups have called on the government to do more to help drivers, with the RAC stating that a fuel duty cut is “overdue”.

UK Fuel Action, which says it supports peaceful demonstrations but is not affiliated with any regional protests, has seen hundreds upon hundreds share their strike plans.

Will you join in with the action? Let us know in the comments!
