By Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k confirmed date for 2023 following wet yet wonderful run
Hundreds of runners braved the rain last Sunday for the Ørsted Great Grimsby 10k and St Hugh’s Hospital Family Fun Run.
Almost 1,700 runners finished the course starting at Grimsby Town Hall and finishing in People’s Park as hundreds of supporters cheered the runners on their way.
A team from headline sponsors Ørsted won the Corporate Challenge Cup for the fourth year running with North East Lincolnshire Council coming second and Unit One third.
Race winners were William Strangeway from Lincoln Wellington AC in the men’s event with a time of 31:55. Laura Smith from Hallamshire Harriers won the women’s race in a time of 35:05.
Lauren Little, Stakeholder Advisor Grimsby at Ørsted, said: “We were so proud to see so many people turn out in the challenging weather, it really showed the amazing tenacity that this community has.
“Ørsted have been in the Humber for the last decade, and we feel privileged to be part of the events like this, that really put the great in Grimsby. Thank you to everyone who came out, from runners to volunteers, we’re already excited for next year.”
Race directors Neil and Nicola Pattison were thrilled with how the day went, saying:
“WOW!! Where do we begin! What a SUPER Sunday it was. We are still surrounded by mountains of soggy kit but we are SMILING!! This is all down to every single one of YOU!
“This race brought the community together including runners, volunteers, businesses, sponsors, community groups and local residents for a memorable day on the streets of Great Grimsby.
“It was the weather that brought out the determination in us all to come together and still have a memorable day on such a special weekend.
“THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for supporting our event!! You were all AMAZING. We love what we do because we know how much it means to you all.
They also confirmed that they will be “back and ready to go again” on Sunday 4 June 2023 for the next race.
The race raises of thousands of pounds for charities and local good causes, with a £1 donation made from every race entry goinf into a fund shared between the event’s charity partners. The seven chosen charities for 2022 are:

- The Gardiner Hill Project (part of NAViGO)
- Mind, North East Lincolnshire
- Doorstep
- RNLI
