Anger as vital local charity targeted by ‘mindless vandalism’

A Grimsby charity has been targeted by mindless vandalism forcing it to suspend operations after severe damage.

Dial A Ride, helps those with mobility and transport issues to do daily tasks like medical appointments and shopping.

The charity was targeted on Thursday, June 9, when a window was smashed on one of its vans, parked outside a house in Pelham Road.

According to reports, the charity has seen hard times following the pandemic and operations can be quite difficult.

Coordinator Ken Peacock is hoping this incident won’t stop them from delivering their vital service.

On their social media page, they posted a statement regarding the vandalism:

“Unfortunately someone decided to break a window in one of our vehicles yesterday we are already stretched on resources drivers etc and paying an unnecessary bill to get this fixed is beyond a joke.

“What’s even worse is they clearly just did it as mindless vandalism as there was a satnav in the glove box which was untouched.

“To put into another context this actual minibus did 1447.65 miles which is 91 hours of driving last month providing a service to the elderly and disabled people of North East Lincolnshire a vehicle which has to pulled off the road for a day.”

The charity provides a vital service for its users so any loss in operation can be significant, if anyone has information regarding the incident they are urged to contact the police.
