North Lincolnshire Council ‘shocked’ by ‘massive fly-tip’
North Lincolnshire Council have been left in “shock” after discovering a fly-tip described as “massive”
A shocking discovery of illegally dumped waste has left the Council in pure disbelief, triggering a serious investigation after the debris is believed to have originated from a cannabis farm.
The rubbish, found on a farm track near Belton, “shocked” council waste enforcement officers, who typically deal with an average of 50-60 fly-tipping reports a week!
Found within the deplorable tip were grow bags, fertiliser, heat lamp, insulation, cables, furniture, and even rotting meat packaging.
Shortly after the discovery, the Council reported the findings to the police.
According to North Lincolnshire Council, it is believed a tipper lorry was used, potentially taking several trips, to fly-tip the waste based on the amount identified. The waste has an estimated length of 70m.
It is understood that Environmental Health Officials are working with the landowner to process the litter, following a detailed analysis of the fly-tip in a mission to obtain evidence that could be used in a prosecution.
“Both the owner of the waste and the dumper will be liable for a fine or even a court case leading to imprisonment once they are identified”, the Council said in a statement.
The Council are urging anyone who saw “anything suspicious” in the area of Idle Bank, Sandtoft, near the M180 flyover, during recent weeks to contact enforcement officers via the flytipping page of the council website.
Rob Waltham, North Lincolnshire Council Leader, said:
“I am not the only one who is horrified at the amount of rubbish that has been dumped here”
“This kind of illegal activity is obscene, and we as a council are determined to track down the perpetrators”, he added.
“There is simply no excuse for causing such a blight on our environment and I urge anyone who knows anything about how this rubbish got there to do the right thing and speak up”
Residents across North Lincolnshire are being warned before giving their waste to people advertising rubbish collections online, and for little cost – if you sell your waste and the rubbish is then illegally disposed of, you will be liable for a fine.
