Union Flags to fly high from Humber Bridge to mark Jubilee!

There will be two Union Flags flown from the Humber Bridge as part of celebrations to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

On the bridge, the flags will be flown from a height of 510ft (156m) to be seen from afar.

Both of the flags are to be raised by Gary Cryer, a Parachute Regiment veteran who was the founder of a combat care charity.

It is said this will be the first time flags have been flown from the towers.

Thursday will see two Spitfires charge over the bridge as part of the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight alongside 70 ships journeying up the Humber.

Hessle Foreshore will also feature a beacon lit to mark the Queen’s 70 years of reign.

The flags are set to be flown from the bridge on Wednesday evening in time for kicking off Jubilee celebrations.

A Hull company, Hi-Fliers are providing the flags to be used, with owner Nigel Cousins saying it will be the highest flag-flying he had done in 25 years of service.

He said to the BBC “We have never done a flag above 300ft high and the towers reach 510ft so it will be a high point for us,”

“I don’t know if anybody will be going higher than that for the Platinum Jubilee, but they will certainly be the highest flags in our region and we are very proud to be involved.”
