Scunthorpe property raided following child sex abuse operation
A property in Scunthorpe has been raided following a large-scale operation into child sexual abuse across the county.
Today, the South Yorkshire Police announced a large operation into child sexual abuse resulted in five arrests.
The investigation focused on “non-recent” cases of child sex abuse dating back to the 1990s.
The Rotherham Fortify Team, alongside the force’s Tasking Support Group, executed six warrants at properties in Scunthorpe, Sheffield, West Yorkshire, and Rotherham.
The force confirmed four men aged 63, 40, 50, and 54-years-old were arrested. Additionally, a 47-year-old woman was arrested.
All five suspects were arrested on suspicion of sexual offences following raids conducted on 18 and 19 May. They have all since been released pending further investigation.
Rotherham’s Protecting Vulnerable People (PVP) Detective Chief Inspector Aneela Khalil-Khan said:
“We are committed to investigating reports of child abuse, regardless of how many years have passed”
“Victims of sexual abuse often find it difficult to come forward and I would like to reassure you that if you do speak to us, we will treat your report with sensitivity and respect”, they added.
“Our enquiries into this case are now continuing and the victim is being supported by officers”
