Frustrated Town fans voice opinions on ‘disgraceful’ ticket prices

Grimsby Town fans have voiced their frustration regarding “disgraceful” ticket prices for the National League play-off final.

The Mariners dug deep in extra time on Saturday (28 May) after a breath-taking display of end-to-end football.

Regular time concluded at 4-4 which meant extra-time, and potentially penalties, was needed to send one team packing and the other into the final.

For Grimsby, this would be the second time in one week that the Black and White Army had to endure another 30 minutes of football.

Edging closer to the dreaded penalty shootout, Luke Waterfall broke Welsh hearts to send the Mariners one step away from promotion.

Now, Grimsby will meet Solihull Moors in the final game of the campaign following a 3-1 victory against Chesterfield.

However, as the ticket prices were announced for the play-off final, fans could not believe their eyes.

Hundreds of frustrated supporters took to social media hours after ticket confirmation – Town fans have already faced ticket frustration during their previous play-off fixtures with limited seat allocation from Notts County and Wrexham.

An adult ticket begins at £40 with an additional £3 “booking fee” and a 99p “digital delivery fee”

“Total rip off. You can get to a Premier League game for less”, said one Mariner.

“£30 would’ve been reasonable but the £3.99 add ons is ridiculous”, added another.

Fans used words such as “disgraceful” and “scandalous” to describe the cost – one fan claimed she had spent in excess of £300 on tickets, travel, and accommodation.

“Disgusting! Once again the fans are getting ripped off!! The National League should be ashamed!”, voiced one angered Mariner.

“The silence from the National League says it all. They can’t justify it so they’re ignoring the criticism knowing that the fans will pay it anyway because we don’t want to miss out on what could be an amazing day”, said another.

Whilst ticket allocation will not be an issue for this fixture, the price could deter some fans from making the trip to London.

David Burns, a BBC Radio Humberside broadcaster, stated play-off final tickets for League 2 started at £26, League 2 £30, and the Championship began at £36. Meanwhile, the cheapest National League tickets start at £40 with an additional £3.99 in add-ons!
