Major McDonald’s payment changes for customers who pay cash
Fast-food giant, McDonald’s, has major payment changes coming for those paying with cash, it has been announced.
Almost 1,000 McDonald’s stores across England are set to see major changes as the fast-food retailer looks to adapt with modernity.
It is understood that the American fast-food chain will remove their ‘traditional’ staffed counters following an increased number of customers paying by card, as opposed to cash.
This year, McDonald’s will implement payment changes at 200 restaurants, following a successful trail across three stores in the county.
According to reports, around 800 stores in total will see payment changes introduced within the next four years – more than half of McDonald’s stores in the county.
The fast-food giant stated the upcoming changes are a direct result of 50% of their customers placing their orders via touch screens in stores, or through their mobile phone app.
Now, McDonald’s will have an area for “different sales channels” and a large collection point.
Gareth Pearson, McDonald’s Uk and Ireland chief operations officer, said:
“The pace of change within the restaurant industry is relentless, and the pandemic accelerated this with digital adoption gathering greater pace. Our customers rightly expect to have choice in how and where they order and collect their food, and our job is to ensure that every experience is a great one”
“For this to be the case, we know we also have to provide our restaurant teams and delivery partners with the best possible environment to work in”, he added.
Despite these changes, no jobs will be lost, McDonald’s has confirmed.
