Cold caller targets elderly woman for cash

An elderly woman is believed to have been robbed of a sum of money after being approached by a cold caller at her home, who took money for a job and failed to return to finish the work.

The incident happened in Keelby, near Grimsby, on Friday 6 May after someone reportedly knocked on doors in the Milson Road area.

It is thought they were offering various handyman services like weeding and cleaning pavements, around the local area and the street.

According to reports, they convinced the elderly lady that works needed doing to her drive and began work before stating they would return at a later date.

It is reported that the man asked for the money upfront for the work they were going to carry out.

After receiving the payment, the person never returned on the agreed date to complete the job and has not been seen since, failing to contact or provide a reason.

It is thought the person affected lost around £200 for the work the man was supposed to carry out.

In a statement, Lincolnshire Police said: “Inc 279 of 17th May refers to a report of fraud involving a cold caller in Keelby, Grimsby. An elderly woman lost a sum of cash during the incident. Inquiries are ongoing.”
