The new North Lincolnshire mayor has been confirmed! 

The new 26th mayor for North Lincolnshire has been confirmed. 

Councillor John Briggs has been elected and sworn in as the 26th Mayor of North Lincolnshire during the annual Mayor Making ceremony. 

It is understood that He will undertake his mayoral duties alongside his partner, Joanne Brown. 

At the ceremony, Cllr Briggs, ward member for Axholme North, said he was proud to live in North Lincolnshire, adding: 

“It has been a real privilege to have been a ward councillor for the past 23 years and Joanne and I look forward to being ambassadors for North Lincolnshire in the coming year” 

He succeeds Cllr Peter Clark who made history after held the role three times, the North Lincolnshire Council said. 

It is an annual tradition for the Mayor of North Lincolnshire to choose a charity, or charities, to support with the Mayor’s Appeal Fund. 

This year, Cllr Briggs has decided to support The Fire Fighters Charity, Starlight Arts, and Magic Moments for Autistic Kids. 

The council has said that since 2016, each elected mayor has appointed a Mayor’s Cadet to join them at important events. Cllr Briggs has chosen L/Cpl Oliver Foster, from the Army Cadets to remain by his side. 

Furthermore, Rev Graham Lines has been named as the mayor’s chaplain. 

“The Deputy Mayor is Cllr Janet Longcake and the Deputy Consort is Cllr Joanne Saunby”, the council said.
