Shop damaged days after stabbing on Grimsby street

A shopkeeper at his property in Grimsby’s West Marsh, witnessed a man allegedly stabbed in his buttock outside his business.

Jey Rave, the owner, is understood to have called emergency services and the attacker fled along Wharton Road during the incident on Saturday.

According to reports, a male lobbed a brick through his front window while customers shopped in his store at 12.37pm on Monday.

The following day graffiti was sprayed on the wall of the store on the junction of Macaulay Street and Wharton Road. It is a Go-Local store and serves the community.

“Didn’t realise how rough it actually was round there” one wrote on social media.

“It isn’t safe anymore in Grimsby, back in my day we had a thing called RESPECT.” another added.

A Humberside Police spokeswoman said: “We were called to reports of a disturbance on Macaulay Street in Grimsby at around 9.45pm on Saturday. A man is reported to have sustained a minor injury to his leg in what has been reported as an isolated incident.”

She added: “We have received a report that a shop on Macaulay Street suffered two broken windows at around 12.40pm on Monday, May 2. At this stage there is no evidence to suggest that this is connected to any previous incident.

“We are investigating the distressing criminal damage and would appeal for witnesses to come forward. If anyone has information that would help with our enquiries, we would ask them to call us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting reference 16/51406/22.”
