Rishi Sunak cleared by watchdog over tax controversy
According to reports, Rishi Sunak has today been cleared of wrongdoing over his personal tax affairs and those of his non-dom wife.
The Chancellor faced criticism after it emerged he held a US Green Card whilst in his office.
The controversy surrounded Akshata Murty’s tax status and her shareholding regarding an Indian tech firm, Infosys- whilst living in Downing Street.
Lord Geitdt, advisor of ministerial standards has cleared Mr. Sunak today.
The Daily Mail reported Lord Geidt said ‘I advise that the requirements of the ministerial code have been adhered to by the Chancellor and that he has been assiduous in meeting his obligations and in engaging with this investigation.
‘In reaching these judgements, I am confined to the question of conflicts of interest and the requirements of the ministerial code. My role does not touch on any wider question of the merits of such interest or arrangements.’
Rishi Sunak also received an FPN this month for breaking lockdown rules.
