Sir Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams join bid for Chelsea purchase
According to reports Serena Williams and Sir Lewis Hamilton are backing Sir Martin Broughton’s bid to buy Chelsea FC.
Reports suggest they are willing to invest a substantial amount to buy the Stamford Bridge Club.
According to Sky News, the pair are prepared to invest a figure of £10 million each to contribute to the deal.
The former chairman of British Airways and Liverpool FC has reportedly been in talks with them for weeks about a deal.
There are claims Hamilton would ‘play a formal role in Chelsea’s future efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion if Broughton’s bid ends up being successful’.
The club has been up for sale ever since sanctions were brought against the former owner, Roman Abramovich, in relation to the war in Ukraine.
A statement in February, by the previous owner Abramovich stated:
“During my nearly 20-year ownership of Chelsea FC, I have always viewed my role as a custodian of the Club, whose job it is ensuring that we are as successful as we can be today, as well as build for the future, while also playing a positive role in our communities. I have always taken decisions with the Club’s best interest at heart. I remain committed to these values. That is why I am today giving trustees of Chelsea’s charitable Foundation the stewardship and care of Chelsea FC.
“I believe that currently they are in the best position to look after the interests of the Club, players, staff, and fans.”.
