Man jailed for attack on a woman carrying a child
A man has been jailed for an attack on a woman from behind as she was walking along carrying her child.
The woman was reportedly walking along the seafront carrying her five-year-old daughter in her arms.
Charlie Wild, 20, Grimsby, was seen assaulting the woman with a “flying kick” that knocked the woman and her child down.
Mr. Wild had been (in his absence) convicted for assaulting the woman, causing actual bodily harm, on July 31st, 2020.
Another incident saw Wild admitting to wounding a man on October 16th and possessing a knife.
Craig Lowe who was prosecuting said that the woman suffered permanent scars to her knees and her daughter was left scared.
The girl reportedly said, “I’m sorry, Mummy. I couldn’t save you”.
About the mother, “she found it difficult to understand how someone could do that to someone with a child in their arms” said Mr. Lowe.
Mr. Wild was on bail and was subjected to a warrant for his arrest after the knife incident occurred at a flat in Abbey Road, Grimsby.
It is understood Mr. Wild had convictions for 13 previous offenses going back as early as 2012, which was for possession.
Judge Michael Fanning told Mr. Wild, “This offending is bad. You are a dangerous young man willing to use weapons and willing to randomly assault a female on Brighton seafront as she was holding a child.
“Your victim was vulnerable- she had her back turned to you. She had a child in her arms. A five-year-old child was present. It was a busy public area”.
About the knife attack where a man was injured- “This was a persistent attack. This happened in somebody’s home where they are entitled to feel safe and secure”.
Wild was sent to a young offenders’ institution for three years and three months and was given a five-year restraining order.
