Another P&O ferry detained at Dover

Another P&O ferry was detained at Dover

Another P&O Ferries vessel has been detained at Dover over deficiencies, following the busy Easter period at the port.

According to reports, The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said inspectors found a “Number of deficiencies”.

The Spirit Of Britain’s vessel is usually a Dover to Calais route, which is now allegedly not allowed to sail before issues are resolved.

From the BBC, MCA said: ” We have advised P&O to invite us back once they have addressed the issues. We do not know yet when this will be”.

P&O routes from Dover-Calais are currently suspended, reportedly not resuming until Friday at the ‘Earliest’.

It is understood that  8 Ferries are subjected to inspections from the MCA, to ensure they are fit to sail.

According to reports, The Pride Of Hull and European Causeway have been inspected and cleared to sail.

A P&O spokesperson said the Spirit of Britain would ” Remain berthed in its current port”.

” In the past few days, both the European Causeway and the Pride of Hull have been deemed safe to sail by the MCA, and we continue to work with all the relevant authorities to return all our ships to service”.

The Pride of Hull was carrying freight from Hull to Rotterdam, leaving at around 20:30 BST.

The service is understood to involve the lower-paid replacements of the sacked staff.

The RMT union has said the ferry should be stopped, despite passing the required checks.

According to reports, Union representatives have written to Transport Secretary Grant Shapps, to ban the ship from sailing.

Travel disruption is expected to return at Dover and other ports, as the Easter weekend approaches.
