P&O Ferries suspends all services
P&O Ferries has suspended all services amid an ongoing scandal after 800 members of staff were made redundant via a video call last month.
The announcement was made via the P&O Ferries Twitter account.
It read: “All P&O Ferries Passenger Services are suspended this weekend.
“For travel 8/9/10th April please re-book directly with another operator before arriving at the port.”
This comes after P&O boss Peter Hebblethwaite was advised to resign after admitting to “knowingly breaking the law” by sacking 800 members of staff without prior consultation.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said: “I thought what the boss of P&O said yesterday about knowingly breaking the law was brazen and breathtaking, and showed incredible arrogance.
“I cannot believe that he can stay in that role having admitted to deliberately go out and use a loophole – well, break the law, but also use a loophole.”
The cancellation of services will no doubt come as a blow to the 40,000 customers scheduled to travel with P&O Ferries this weekend.
Customers are being advised to seek services with alternative companies until further notice.
Updates to follow.
