Power firms ‘ready’ for stormy-weather
Power firms across the country have assured customers that they are ready and prepared to handle the possible impact of stormy weather on their networks after recent severe weather caused days of power outages in some areas.
A yellow weather warning is in place between Wednesday and Friday as storms Dudley and Eunice arrive in northern Lincolnshire.
Northern England is set to be hit by disruptive winds of up to 90mph.
Locally, Northern Powergrid says it has made preparations ahead of Storms Dudley and Eunice.
According to the provider, there is a “relatively high likelihood that there will be some disruption to power supplies” but customers have been assured that it is “ready to respond”.
In a message to customers a spokesperson said: “We are aware that both storms carry a threat of gale force winds, forecast for our operating area from Wednesday evening, potentially causing damage to our network.
“We want to assure you that we closely track the weather and have ensured our resources are in place to respond if the storms impact our network.
“Our network control engineers have capability to restore power supplies remotely, switching electricity through alternative routes on our network wherever possible to get customers back on supply.
“In parallel our frontline workforce will be deployed to carry out local switching and repairs to restore power as safely and quickly as possible, conditions allowing.”
The Humber Bridge has closed to high-sided and wind-vulnerable vehicles in response to the warning.
A number of LNER services have also been cancelled.
Anyone experiencing a power shortage or outage is advised to report it to Northern Powergrid.
