Sainsbury’s asks shoppers to wear face masks as Plan B ends
Sainsbury’s will continue to ask shoppers and staff members to wear face masks after Plan B rules come to an end tomorrow.
Wearing face coverings and will no longer be mandatory in shops from Thursday 27 January.
Covid passports will no longer be required either.
However, the supermarket chain has expressed that they would still like their customers to wear face masks in their stores.
The news comes after several supermarket chains declared that they would no longer be paying their unvaccinated staff members sick pay.
Whilst Sainsbury’s has not followed their lead, they still need to protect their staff members from shortages caused by the virus.
According to the BBC, Morrisons will not be making face coverings compulsory after tomorrow.
In a statement to the BBC, Sainsbury’s said: “In Scotland and Wales face coverings remain mandatory for those who can wear them in our stores, in line with the latest government restrictions.
“We continue to have a range of safety measures in all of our stores, including screens and sanitising stations.”
Scientific evidence suggests that coronavirus spreads more rapidly in indoor, enclosed spaces.
Face masks have been proven to offer protection against the virus.
