Grimsby constituents ‘sick and tired’ of questions about PM, says Lia Nici
Great Grimsby MP Lia Nici has spoken out in support of the Prime Minister Boris Johnson after the Metropolitan Police announced they were investigating Downing Street parties.
She has said that the people of Grimsby are “sick and tired” of questions about the PM’s position and has claimed that they are “very happy” with him and his government.
Speaking in the House of Commons after Labour requested to ask an urgent question to the government after the Met Police announcement, she continued the defence saying:
“I’ve been out and about with my constituents of Great Grimsby and they are sick and tired of listening to this constant thread [of calls for the PM to resign].
“They are happy, very happy that essential workers have gathered together for two years to get us through this pandemic.”
She also added that she wanted to relay a message to Johnson that “they [Grimsby voters] support him and his policies and they want him to carry on getting on with the job.”
The Conservative MP has consistently supported Johnson, telling ITV News last week that he was a “visionary leader” and that she “wholeheartedly” supports him.
In that same interview, she admitted that some constituents were “upset and disappointed that the PM was at that event.”
Senior civil servant Sue Gray is currently conducting an inquiry into the Downing Street parties, and now the Metropolitan Police are involved, with some of her findings possibly including potentially criminal activity.
On Monday night, ITV News revealed that the PM allegedly had a birthday party in Downing Street in June 2020, when indoor social gatherings was illegal and indoor singing was discouraged.
