By Waters’ Edge Visitor Centre reduces carbon footprint with new solar panels
The Water’s Edge Visitor Centre in Barton upon Humber will save thousands of pounds after they installed new solar panels at their site.
Their energy costs and carbon production will be cut down drastically due to the new changes brought about by the Government grant.
The grant of £108,000 allowed the centre to install new, energy-saving technology on their site as part of the Government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.
The work was completed by Brigg-based Appleby’s Electrical Ltd and Grid Neutral.
According to North Lincolnshire Council, out-of-date solar panels were replaced with a ‘34kw system of 90 photovoltaic (pv) panels’ and their building was ‘fitted with long-life LED lights and six energy-efficient hand dryers’.
The upgrade should save the centre £7,000 per year and reduce their annual carbon footprint by four tonnes, the council added.
A new display screen has also reportedly been installed in the centre so that visitors can see for themselves how much energy is being produced by the sun via the solar panels.
A spokesperson for North Lincolnshire Council said: “The transformation is part of North Lincolnshire Council’s vision to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030, as detailed in the Green Future prospectus, which also includes commitments to minimise waste, use resources more effectively and enhance and protect the natural environment.”
