Labour creates petition calling for Boris Johnson’s resignation
The Labour party has created an online petition calling for the Prime Minister’s resignation following the controversial lockdown garden party held at Downing Street.
In today’s PM’s questions, Boris Johnson confirmed that he did attend the garden party held at Downing Street in May 2020, but he claimed he was only there for 25 minutes.
He said he “believed implicitly” that the lockdown garden party was a work event, but that he should have taken action when he realised this wasn’t the case.
Labour leader Kier Starmer mocked the Prime Minister’s defence that he “didn’t know he was at a party.”
Mr Starmer concluded his questions to the Prime Minister asking will the public kick him out, will the Tory party kick him out or will the Prime Minister “do the decent thing and resign?”
Mr Johnson refused to comment on the calls for his resignation, asking MP’s to wait for the inquiry into the party to be carried out in full.
The Labour party has now shared a petition across their social media sites calling for Mr Johnson’s resignation, stating that the “party is over.”
The petition states: “Boris Johnson threw an illegal lockdown party. He must resign.
“Boris Johnson has admitted he hosted an illegal party at the height of the first COVID lockdown.
“While you were separated from loved ones, Boris Johnson was partying. When people sacrificed so much to follow the rules, he decided he was above them.
“The Prime Minister broke his own COVID laws. He must do the right thing and resign.”
