Flood alert from Barton Upon Humber to Humberston

A flood alert for tidal flooding has been issued near the South Humber Bank from Barton Upon Humber to Humberston.

Forecasters are predicting stormy conditions, resulting in large waves and a tidal surge moving down the East Coast of England beginning at around 18:30 on Monday 3rd January and 07:00 on Tuesday 4th of January.

This is expected to result in unusually high tidal levels along The South Humber Bank, between Barton Upon Humber to Humberston.

The alert follows several days of unprecedentedly warm weather experienced across the region.

Authorities have specified that this is an alert, rather than a warning.

Flooding is expected to be contained to costal areas, with damage to properties unlikely. Therefore flood warnings are not expected to be issued.

In a statement issued this afternoon, a government spokesperson said: “We are constantly monitoring tide levels, and have staff in the field checking our defences and closing tidal gates where required.

“Please avoid using low lying coastal footpaths near beaches or promenades and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads, as sea spray and waves could be dangerous.”

Updates will follow if the situation changes.
