Cleethorpes Bonfire Night burglar jailed after crime spree
A man from Barnsley who ransacked a Cleethorpes home on Bonfire Night has been jailed for 40 months after a string of burglaries in October and November.
Shane Walker, 34, formerly of South Drive, Bolton Upon Dearne, received his sentence at Sheffield Crown Court on 14 December 2021.
A court heard that he stole from a home in Cleethorpes on Bonfire Night as part of a string of burglaries where he also stole from houses in Goldthorpe, Tickhill, Kendray and Barnsley.
His first crime was committed 21 October, when he ransacked a home in Barnsley, taking jewellery and a large amount of cash.
On 5 November 2021 at around 4pm, he smashed through a glass door at a Cleethorpes home and stole several items of jewellery and two iPads as part of his crime spree, a court heard.
Just four days later, on 9 November, he went to a home in Goldthorpe, police attended the scene after a witness saw him on their CCTV camera and found that he had broken in through a window and stolen a number of expensive designer clothes and a custom made bike.
A court heard that Mr Walker then stole a van from a yard in Doncaster on 11 November, and then used this van to steal from the grounds of Kendray Hospital, in Barnsley a day later, where he stole several items of gardening equipment.
Police tracked him down thereafter, thanks to a description by a victim, and arrested him on suspicion of theft, later charging him with multiple burglary offences.
