Changes to bin collections over Christmas

A number of households across North East Lincolnshire are set to experience changes to their waste collection schedule during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Some households can expect to have their bins or boxes emptied on a different day than usual.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “Waste and recycling collection dates change during the Christmas holiday. Please remind your neighbours, it’s easy to forget.

“The easiest way to check your dates is to visit www.nelincs.gov.uk/bins- external site.

“On average, about 5,000 people check the online calendar every day. It’s the most popular page on our website, with 271,000 views in the last 12 months.

“We’re also sending a leaflet to households in the borough to let people know about the changes.

“The booklet also includes an illustrated guide to your bins, as well as information about the Community Recycling Centres and our bulky waste service.”

North East Lincolnshire Council added that they aim to take your waste or recycling on the first day listed, but if not they will be back on one of the following days.

The updated collection dates are as follows:

There are no collections on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December and Monday 3 January

There will be no changes to collections expected to take place on Monday 20 December, Tuesday 21 December, Wednesday 22 December, or Thursday 23 December.

Collections scheduled to take place on Friday 24 December may now take place on Thursday 23 December instead. Those usually taking place on Monday 27 December will instead happen on Friday 24 December.

The following collections have also been rescheduled:

Tuesday 28 December will instead take place on Wednesday 29 December or Thursday 30 December.

Wednesday 29 December is planned to go ahead as scheduled but may be delayed until Thursday 30 December.

Thursday 30 December is planned to go ahead as scheduled but may be delayed until Friday 31 December.

Friday 31 December is planned to go ahead as scheduled but may be delayed until Tuesday 4 January.

Collections for Monday 3 January will instead take place on Tuesday 4 January.

All collections scheduled from Tuesday 4 January are expected to take place either on time or the following day.

Councillor Swinburn continued: “Christmas is the busiest time of year for our crews, they deal with much more waste and recycling than they usually do.

“Please be patient. Our staff will do everything they can to cope with the extra demand, but the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and other problems such as bad weather could cause some disruption.”

If the crews don’t get to you on the dates listed, please take in your bins or boxes and put them out before 7 am the next collection day.
