Plans for 390 houses to be built in Barton met with objections

On Thursday 25 November, a planning permission request was submitted to North Lincolnshire Council by Banks to build up to 390 new houses in Barton upon Humber on the land at Park Farm on Horkstow Road.

If the plans are successful, works will take place west of Brigg Road and south of Horkstow Road.

A relief road will also be built to access the site.

Some residents welcome the new housing development as it means more homes for the younger generations wishing to purchase their own properties.

However, others have objected the plans, stating that Banks wish to ‘rip up greenbelt land’ and reduce the size of the countryside in favour of concrete and pollution.

Official complaints include individuals stressing over the disturbances the construction will cause, the traffic demands it will inflict and the stress it will cause to the limited number of doctors, dentists and schools available in the town if the population rises.

One person wrote: “This plan will destroy the green and farming area that give[s] the town its balance after already industrialising the top field.”

Those in favour of the plans wrote on social media that some of the protestors may be “the ones who live in houses 15/20 years old” and so do not have to worry about being able to purchase a home.

The consultation end date is on Wednesday 12 January 2022.
