MP’s vote in favour of new Covid measures

As of today, Covid passports, proof of a negative lateral flow test or of two doses of a vaccine must be shown for entry into large venues such as nightclubs in England.

These new measures follow the major debate in parliament yesterday (14 December) which saw a major tory rebellion against the Prime Minister.

Despite this, the measures were passed by 243 votes for with a further 99 MPs voting against.

Alongside these new measures, the countries booster vaccine picks up the pace from today.

All adults over the age of 18 can now book their booster vaccination on the NHS website or visit a walk-in clinic.

Those receiving the booster must have received their second dose of the vaccine at least three months ago.

MPs also voted to back compulsory face masks in most indoor settings.

All the measures MPs voted for are:

  • Making vaccinations compulsory for NHS workers in England
  • Over-18s in England must prove they are fully vaccinated or have a recent negative lateral flow test to enter a number of large venues, such as nightclubs, from Wednesday
  • Daily lateral flow tests for fully vaccinated people who come into contact with Covid cases, instead of isolation
  • Continue making face masks compulsory in a wider range of venues

Recently, England has been introducing new Cvoid measures under its ‘Plan B’ in response to the new variant Omicron.

Although experts are still trying to determine if the new strain is less or more severe than previous strains, it does appear to be more transmissible.
