Mayor charity night raises over £1,300
A charity night hosted by the North East Lincolnshire Council mayor has raised more than £1,300 for three local charities.
Councillor David Hasthorpe welcomed more than 100 guests for an evening of live music, fish and chips and a tombola with locally-donated prizes on 31 October.
The night was in aid of the mayor’s three chosen charities – Andy’s, Harbour Place and CatZero.
Cllr Hasthorpe thanked those who attended and the local companies and guests who donated prizes for the event:
“Mayoress and I are both grateful to those who attended and put their hands deep into their pockets to raise such a great amount.
“The monies will help to swell the Mayor’s charity account which is already looking very healthy,” he added.
Andy’s are a charity who raise funds for St Andrew’s hospice, helping children and young children with free palliative care.
Harbour Place are a local homeless charity, who are celebrating their 25th Anniversary, helping unfortunate local people who have found themselves sleeping rough.
CatZero is a youth development charity helping young people across the Humber help overcome challenges and find confidence and employment.
These three charities are close to the mayor’s heart, and they have all been “hit so hard” by the pandemic reducing their funding.
He added: “Vital funds were raised that, at the end of my year as Mayor, will be split between Andy’s Children’s Hospice, Catzero and Harbour Place – all local causes that have had their funding hit so hard during the last couple of years of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I believe we all know someone who has benefitted from these fabulous organisations and I am delighted that so many dig deep to help with my fundraising.
“My thanks to all who have so far got us to a total in excess of £5,000 to be given over, and I hope, much more to come.”
