North East Lincolnshire’s mental health service highly rated by CQC

North East Lincolnshire’s mental health provider, NAViGO has been rated as performing ‘better than expected’ by the Care Quality Commission.

The national Care Quality Commission 2021 Community Mental Health Survey gave NAViGO an overall rating of Good for the third year in a row.

The Care Quality Commission Survey has been conducted annually since 2004 to record users experiences of their local services.

Over 17,000 adults who use NHS community mental health services gave their responses about using their local services between September 1 and November 30 last year.

The survey focused on various aspects such as organisation, planning and reviewing of the care and treatment of each service, crisis care, support and wellbeing plus overall evaluations.

The number of NAViGO users who responded to the survey with positive answers about their care was above the average of other trusts.

The Director of Public Health in North East Lincolnshire, Stephen Pintus, said in his 2020 Public Health Annual Report that people living in the most deprived areas of North East Lincolnshire are more likely to suffer from poor mental health.

He stated: “On average, those living in the most deprived areas of North East Lincolnshire can expect to live shorter lives than those living in the least deprived areas.

“They are also more likely to spend a greater proportion of their lives living in poor physical health, as well as to suffer from poor mental health and wellbeing.

“Real Time Surveillance of suspected suicides in North East Lincolnshire in 2020 revealed the presence of factors such as unemployment, housing (such as living in temporary accommodation), domestic abuse and contact with the criminal justice system, which are all more common in the deprived population.

“A rapid Covid-19 health needs assessment was carried out in June 2020 during which many local services noted the effect of the pandemic on mental health. NAViGO reported that acute admissions inpatients to mental health services were presenting as increasingly unwell with increasing length of stay.”
